Another tribute from the Jerez Ángel Nieto Circuit. Now, it’s the executive director of Dorna, Carmelo Ezpeleta, who has his name on one of the corners of the track that usually hosts the Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix.
In 2019, Turn 6 was named Dani Pedrosa Corner, while Turn 8 became Jorge Martínez Aspar Corner. And the name of the circuit is in honor of Ángel Nieto, the 12+1 times world champion.
Now, Turn 7 at Jerez is designated as Carmelo Ezpeleta Corner. The announcement came from the Jerez City Council and its president María José García-Pelayo.
In a statement, the municipality justifies this distinction: ‘It is a show of recognition for his work in favor of motorcycling and, more specifically, the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit during all these years to host the Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix and the Superbike World Championship‘.
In the opinion of María José García-Pelayo, it is also ‘an act of justice’ towards the leader of Dorna, following ‘an tireless support’ to the circuit in southern Spain.
