The French specialists in trial and enduro, Sherco, have launched a trial bike for younger and less experienced riders with a touch of delicacy.
The 125 TY Long Ride, air-cooled, offers casual riders a relaxed experience without the competitiveness and aggressiveness of a competition trial bike.
Sherco has introduced the Long Ride for a wider customer base, opting for ease of use and practicality over performance. Versatility is the focus here, and Sherco has created a bike that feels just as comfortable tackling shorter trips as it does taking on more demanding terrain for a trial bike.
The 123.7 cc engine powering the TY has a power output of 7.4 hp and, thanks to its fuel economy, its 4.2-liter fuel tank should allow for a range of about 160 km. Although not powerful in terms of performance, the small Sherco is quite lightweight, at only 85 kg, which means it should be exceptionally easy to ride.
Both kick start and electric start are available to bring the engine to life, which is a copy of the reliable Yamaha YBR engine, sharing the same capacity, bore, and stroke. Thanks to its engine derived from a road bike, the Long Ride’s five-speed gearbox should have a wide range of ratios for mixed use.
Spare parts should be abundant and it is unlikely that the engine will have trouble racking up miles on the road, whether for a more urban trip or for off-road fun.
The TY can be as minimalist as motorcycles, but still comes with a horn, as well as front and rear lights – the minimum required for a street legal model. The 18/21″ spoked wheels are present at both ends and the basic suspension provides 170 mm of travel for the front, while offering 165 mm of travel for the rear wheel.
