Johann Zarco is taking his first steps with the LCR Honda’s Honda RC213V in MotoGP. After showing solid performance in the Qatar GP, the rider faced more difficulties in the Portugal GP, not being able to manage as he intended.
At the moment, Joan Mir (Repsol Honda) is standing out among the Honda riders with the difference he can make on corner entry. Zarco was asked if he can learn from the Spaniard in this aspect or if it’s related to confidence.
In his response, the Frenchman stated: ‘It’s more about building confidence, I would say, because we have different riding styles. It seems that mine worked well in Qatar, because I was able to control the situation and then be a bit faster at the end. And I hoped to do the same in Portimão – not for a very good position, but in this group where Joan was fighting: “Maybe control here and then save my tire to attack a bit more at the end.” And I was attacking the whole race, so that’s why I had nothing left at the end’.
After starting the season with a 12th place in the Qatar GP, Zarco finished the Portugal GP in 15th – being benefited by some crashes to reach the last scoring position.
