Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team/Ducati) admitted that the start of this World Superbike season is not going well and that there is a lot of room for improvement in his performance in the first two rounds of this year.
‘Obviously, race 2 was disappointing. It wasn’t the position we wanted. It was a kind of baptism of fire for me, as tire wear was really high. It was difficult to manage the last four or five laps. I suppose it’s a bit due to lack of experience, as the crash in Saturday’s race caused me to lose all the distance in the race’, said the British rider quoted by Motosan.es.
In Catalunya, Lowes retired in race 1 after crashing while leading, finishing 14th in the second race.
‘Tire durability is something I have to work on and understand much better. I didn’t have the knowledge to improve. The ending was tough, but I learned a lot and will have to learn much more. I just wanted to finish the race. There are some things we need to improve for the race in Assen. I want to thank the team for continuing to work hard, but it was a tough day for me’, he added.
Lowes has 18 points and is in 13th place. WorldSBK is led by Nicolò Bulega with 87 points.
‘We will try to improve from here, since it is clear that the bike has speed, but tire durability is something I have to work on and understand much better. I think it’s normal, after coming from Moto2 with a different bike and a different tire brand. Step by step, we will manage the situation and continue to work hard’, he concluded.
