There are few riders who have a guaranteed spot for 2025, and Augusto Fernández is one of the riders who is currently having to justify a place on the grid from next year. The rider admitted that there is no way to ‘delude oneself’, and that either one proves on track that they deserve the place or… they are left out of the category.
Currently in his second year in the category, after the first two rounds the results are not the most favorable and the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider admitted to Motorsport that it is not an easy situation to manage: ‘It’s a difficult moment. It’s my second year and it’s hard to admit, but it’s like starting from scratch. We are half a second off the top 10 and we will start from there, work to get points and build from there’.
Furthermore, #37 believes that to secure a place among the elite next year, the truth is that “all you have to do” is… be fast: ‘Of course we can’t delude ourselves. If we don’t have speed and don’t race, we won’t have any help and next year there won’t be a contract. It’s clear that it’s a decisive year and we have to hurry to get there. I’m the first one who doesn’t want to be so far back’.
At the moment, Tech3 has Pedro Acosta as the standout in the team and there are already rumors pointing to a possible demotion of Jack Miller from KTM to the French structure. One thing is certain, it is still very early and it is truly in the hands of the riders to ensure their place in the category.
