In the past year, there has been some talk about the possibility of Formula 1 and MotoGP holding a Grand Prix together, at the same circuit and on the same weekend. It would be something innovative and never done before, which now gains another level of strength with Liberty Media owning both championships.
But realistically, what are the chances of this joint event happening? Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna, spoke about the subject to the website GPOne.com:
“This is something to think about. It’s an idea that Stefano [Domenicali, president and CEO of F1] and I talked about in the past and it wasn’t possible to materialize because it’s complicated, but I won’t stop thinking about options like this.”
Throughout this season, F1 and MotoGP have five circuits in common: Austin, Barcelona, Losail, Silverstone, and Spielberg. Although other tracks from both championships are suitable for both, bringing them together on the same weekend poses some logistical challenges, as not all the specific details required are the same.
