Compliments to Pedro Acosta keep coming. The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rookie impressed both at the MotoGP Qatar GP and at the Portugal GP – where he finished third in the main race, stepping onto the podium for the first time.
Marco Melandri is keeping an eye on the premier class and is also impressed with the Spanish rider. The former rider told GPOne.com that, without Acosta’s performance, the season-opening Qatar GP wouldn’t have been as exciting:
– Fortunately, there’s Acosta, without him even in Qatar, with some overtakes on [Brad] Binder, it would have been a disappointing race. He brought excitement, now we will see what he will do in the upcoming races. From a certain point of view, I hope he is not strong in qualifying so that he has to recover in the race.
In Losail, Acosta even fought directly with Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati), as he did later in Portimão – where he also faced two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), without showing any intimidation or fear.
Next up is the Americas GP, at the demanding Circuit of the Americas in Austin. It will be another track for Acosta to discover on a premier class bike, but #31 seems to show good adaptability and quick learning.
