The Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix took place a week ago, for the fifth consecutive season at the Algarve International Circuit. And the growth in on-site audiences was clear.
Paulo Pinheiro, executive director of the circuit, spoke to the newspaper Record about this ‘boom’: ‘The balance has to be necessarily positive. 174 thousand spectators in the stands throughout the weekend meant an increase of 41 percent compared to 2023‘.
The leader believes that Portimão witnessed ‘a great celebration of motorcycling, both on and off the track with unique moments’. And he revealed: ‘The reactions we have gathered are all positive and the same feedback we receive from riders, teams, and championship promoters‘.
This year a fan zone was created, and in addition Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia) continues to generate great enthusiasm among the Portuguese public. There is also the proximity to Spain, which has some of the best riders in the grid – including the 2023 vice-champion, Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) and Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati).
The future of MotoGP’s Portuguese GP is not yet guaranteed, with the intention of the responsible parties of the Portimão circuit to ensure continuity as soon as possible and for a period of three years.
