Arón Canet needed 70 races to taste his first victory in Moto2. The rider from Valencia celebrated like few others the triumph achieved at the Portuguese GP a week ago.
‘Do you know what? In 2022, a mechanic friend from Almería said that if he won a race, he would smoke a cigar and grow a mustache… I am very happy, especially how things improve mentally, being focused throughout a race in the lead. I know the potential I have this year and everything I can do. I don’t go to the races thinking that others are better than me. I know that maybe I won’t win or won’t be able to stay on the podium, but this year I took a leap of confidence,’ said the Fantic Racing rider to AS.
For this time, Canet changed his approach and considers that this is bringing him benefits: ‘Yes, I changed, but it’s not a mental issue, but a team effort. I do race simulations to understand the tires and that’s what helped us to manage very well, to know when and at what moment. Even the last one wants to be champion’.
With 31 points in two rounds, the Spaniard is the leader of the Moto2 World Championship, but he doesn’t get carried away: ‘Now I am the leader, but it’s as if I were the third classified. It’s only the second race. Let me win five races and then we talk. The season is long. I have already lost four World Championships’, he emphasized.
