Jorge Martín achieved his first MotoGP victory of the season at the Portuguese MotoGP. The Prima Pramac rider quickly took the lead and never looked back, although he did not build a large margin over his opponents.
The result, combined with Francesco Bagnaia’s (Ducati) retirement, left the Spaniard at the top of the championship for the first time after a Grand Prix. If there were any doubts about a possible title challenge for the second consecutive year, they seem to be dispelled already.
Sito Pons spoke to Moto.it’s YouTube channel about the Portuguese GP, praising the winner: ‘Martín did a perfect job and put himself in the lead of the race,’ he said.
The former team owner has no doubts that the 2023 runner-up will be back in the title fight, highlighting their approach and level of confidence: ‘They will be fighting for the championship […]. They are aggressive, incisive, don’t make many mistakes, and above all, have a confidence that sets them apart from the others. It’s very important for them to have that self-confidence because it keeps you always there‘.
