Fabio Quartararo returned to being the best man on the Yamaha track and this weekend in Portugal, counting for the second round of the MotoGP world championship, showed signs of progress or at least seemed according to his own analysis.
Looking at his race, he told Canal+ that still his pace was ‘very average.’ ‘It’s complicated… Honestly, I think it’s good. We finished in 7th, which is a positive result, but the pace we had during the race was very average. I thought we were going to finish closer to the leader, but we almost lost a second per lap. So, that’s very important and we’ll have to find a solution’.
Despite admitting that he wants more, the truth is that he felt the work being done is heading in the right direction for the growth he wants to see even if progress is not happening as quickly as he would like: ‘We are on the right track, but as a driver, of course, I always want things to be faster as soon as possible, but we are taking small steps forward, but slowly’.
And he concluded: ‘I don’t think our potential is as great as we think, because the race ended with us 20 seconds behind the winner. We have to solve another detail, the tire degradation, to try to fight a little more for the front positions’.
