In the recent MotoGP round in Portimão, a collision between riders Marc Márquez and Pecco Bagnaia sparked a debate among fans and experts. In this case, Jorge Lorenzo, former world champion and current commentator, does not blame Márquez, but rather Bagnaia.
‘Marc is an aggressive rider, but in this specific moment, in my opinion, he is not at fault, because the rider who overtakes those in front of him does not have a complete 360° view of what is happening,’ began Lorenzo quoted in DAZN, before stating that it was the Italian, on the contrary, who had the advantage on what could have been a way to avoid the accident: ‘On the other hand, the one coming from behind, in this case Bagnaia, could see Márquez’s intention, which was to return to the line,’ and then added:
– Therefore, in this case, in my opinion, Pecco was the one who could have avoided this accident, simply by letting Marc pass through that corner in front of him and find himself further ahead. Instead, he saw a small gap, accelerated a little more than usual to slide in, but the gap was minimal, both had the same intention, which was to take off first in that corner, and ended up touching each other. In this case, in my opinion, Marc is not at fault and Pecco could have avoided the collision. But it is correct not to penalize either of them.
