Miguel Oliveira will have to go through the first phase of qualifying for the Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix. The timed practice this afternoon in Portimão was a tough task for the Trackhouse Racing man, who finished in 17th place.
In the initial phase of the session, the rider from Almada was in the top five, before dropping to 11th when he did not improve on his third timed lap. After five flying laps, Oliveira returned to the pits at the end of the first quarter of an hour, occupying 14th place.
Already in 15th, #88 returned to the track with less than 40 minutes remaining. In this second stint on track, he only completed three timed laps and, without improving, dropped to 18th position. When he returned to the track, Oliveira improved immediately, but it was not enough to go beyond 16th.
Despite lowering his record again, the Portuguese rider was unable to find the pace to reach the top ten: he finished the session in 17th, 0.991s behind leader Enea Bastianini (Ducati) and more than four tenths away from securing a spot directly in Q2.
