Since the British GP last year, tire pressure has to respect a minimum limit in MotoGP during 60 percent of the race, with stronger penalties for the 2024 season – eight seconds in Sprint races and 16 seconds in main races.
Therefore, it is another aspect to manage in order to avoid penalties – and keeping tire pressures under control is a considerable challenge, as it depends on various factors such as weather, weight, and the race context: whether a rider is riding alone or in a group, attacking or managing, for example.
And in this aspect, Ducati was once again a pioneer. According to the website Motosan.es, the Borgo Panigale manufacturer introduced a counter where the rider can see how many laps they respected or did not respect the minimum pressure. It is an important aid for the rider to know what risks they are taking, being able to determine if they need to adopt a more or less conservative approach.
