Pedro Acosta has just made his debut in MotoGP and may be facing his first major physical problem since entering the premier class. The issue is compartment syndrome in his left arm, which may require surgery after the Portuguese GP.
According to Motorsport.com, the Spanish rider from Red Bull GasGas Tech3 will be examined by doctors on Monday after the Portimão round. These physical problems may explain Acosta’s performance drop in the final part of the Qatar GP – initially, the tires were blamed, but the analysis has ruled out that cause.
The rookie also suffered pain in his left forearm, but this could also be caused by his posture on the bike – which changed between the tests and the Qatar GP. However, if compartment syndrome is confirmed, Acosta will have three weeks to undergo surgery and recover in time for the Americas GP, scheduled for April 5-7.
