At 17 years old, David Alonso lives a sort of fairy tale. And he hopes to continue the triumph he achieved in Losail last weekend.
‘I had the race quite under control, but when the last lap arrived, things started to get complicated, riders started passing on all sides, due to my mistakes, and I had a lot of work on the last lap, but I managed those overtakes well. It’s a race I will remember for a long time, I always hoped to start the championship winning and becoming the leader. It’s something I want’, the young man recalled in an interview with AS.
‘We all had a lot of problems in the last laps, because the Pirelli tires wear out more than the Dunlop ones. But I switched to attack mode and changed my style a bit to avoid any falls‘, he added.
Alonso commented, also, on the strong connections he has to two countries. ‘It’s like this. I’ve always said that my heart is split in half, half Colombian and half Spanish. I am with both countries and I thank all the people from Spain and Colombia who support me and follow me. More and more we hear about motorcycle racing in Colombia and that is positive for me, for the championship, and for the country,’ he said.
The young pilot admitted that he reacted poorly to the praise he received from various MotoGP riders who point him out as the main candidate to win the Moto3 world championship.
‘I don’t know why they focused so much on me when there are so many fast riders. That affected me a bit on the first day and the fall I had was good to get my feet back on the ground. I also have to learn from these situations, know how to manage these moments’, he concluded.
