Pedro Acosta continues to surprise and in this long MotoGP race his impact remained clear, with the rider even reaching fourth place after overtaking Marc Márquez. However, later he had problems with tire management and ended up losing some positions, something that Jorge Lorenzo considers normal given the rider’s inexperience.
The former rider, now a commentator on DAZN, gave his opinion on the rookie’s Sunday race: ‘He left us thrilled. He did what he had to do; took risks and put his head out for the first time in MotoGP. The lack of experience with tires and physical condition, he will explain, meant that he couldn’t maintain that level until the end. But hey, fastest lap in the race’.
The difference from Moto2 to MotoGP is huge, he continued: ‘It’s when we realize that in the category he’s in, that’s a big word in every sense of the word. You have to be very careful because the bikes are much bigger, the inertia is greater and then he had a significant scare. […]. I think in terms of tires there shouldn’t be a big difference compared to the others. He may have used more because he pushed hard in those laps, but I don’t think it was much worse’.
For Lorenzo, the rider needs more time in the category: ‘It’s evident that Pedro has done very few tests with this bike, he’s not used to riding this bike with tires that are screaming for the end of the race. This makes him ride very tense, as we saw in the entry of corners and in the changes of direction that physically asked for a bit of ‘relaxation’ for the arms. He paid for it with a driving style that wasn’t what it was in the middle of the race’.
