After taking an early lead in the MotoGP Qatar GP race, Francesco Bagnaia had Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) chasing him for a good part of the distance. However, he always had a reserve pace and was able to respond to the rival’s approaches.
The Ducati rider said in a press conference that it was about managing and controlling the events, although his Desmosedici GP24 had the potential for more:
– The potential was to be faster. The bike was capable of doing 1m52.2s/1m52.1s, but it was useless because a lap like that can compromise everything. So I just tried to be as consistent as possible; every time I saw Brad gaining two or three tenths, I just did another lap to try to make up for two or three tenths and open up the gap a little more. I was trying to perfectly manage the rear tire, the entry into the corners, because this way it was easier to control the distance. And it was perfect.
