First GP of the year and an image similar to what was seen so many times in 2023, with Jorge Martín achieving pole position for the Qatar GP.
Here is the first MotoGP Q2 of 2024 and the question: who will conquer the first pole position of the season?
After the first laps, Martín was the fastest with 1:50.789s, with 0.230s over Fabio Di Gianntonio, and Francesco Bagnaia 0.324s behind. Marc Márquez was fourth, Enea Bastianini fifth, and Jack Miller closed the first two rows of the grid for now.
Seven minutes remained until the end of the session and in the garage, most of the riders were making the final preparations for the all-or-nothing, the attack for the pole position in Losail.
With five minutes left in the session, Ducati had the top five fastest times but… would it continue like that?
Upon returning, approximately four minutes before the end of the Q2, Di Gia was already setting sectors in red, as well as Bagnaia, but while Di Gia lost steam, the same cannot be said for Bagnaia who improved and reached second place, still behind Martín by 0.139s, after a mistake of going too wide in the last corner.
Aleix Espargaró challenged the Ducatis and reached second place, trailing Martín by 0.083s, and shortly after, Binder was 0.124s behind, securing the third fastest time.
Raúl Fernández crashed and was out of the fight for the pole position, while in the final moments the suspense increased with… more Martín! The Pramac Racing rider had sectors in red and had anticipated an improvement in his time. Before that, Binder also crashed.
Martín terminó sin poder mejorar el tiempo, pero la sesión finalizó con el #89 nuevamente asegurando la pole position. A. Espargaró estaba en segundo lugar y Enea Bastianini en tercero.
