The European phase of the MotoGP World Championship season ends this weekend. The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli hosts the San Marino GP before the usual Asian tour in the coming weeks.
After the crash that kept him out of the second start of the Catalunya GP, Francesco Bagnaia is fit for Misano. Therefore, he can fight to defend or extend his lead in the MotoGP, which stands at 50 points ahead of Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati). Further back is Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team/Ducati), in third place already 71 points behind the leader. Motivated by the historic one-two in Barcelona, Aprilia competes at home with Aleix Espargaró and Maverick Viñales looking to continue their good form.
In Moto2, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) leads with a 22-point advantage over Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex). Competing at home, the Italian looks to end the less successful phase of the season, where he hasn’t been on the podium since the German GP. Arbolino needs points not only to stay in the title fight but also to distance himself from Jake Dixon (GasGas Aspar/Kalex), who is just 12 points behind.
The Moto3 World Championship has Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) in the lead. The Spaniard failed to score points for the second time this year in Barcelona, but still has a 13-point lead over Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP). The Japanese rider is in good form, not missing the top four since the Spanish GP. After returning to the podiums, Jaume Masiá (Leopard Racing/Honda) is third, 32 points behind the front.
The San Marino GP marks the end of the MotoE World Championship season. Mattia Casadei (HP Pons Los40) is the highest placed in the title fight, leading by 21 points ahead of Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar). In third is Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini) with 22 points. With 50 points up for grabs, Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP) is also mathematically in the fight, although his 44-point deficit makes his recovery practically impossible.
