Motorcycle sales in Italy recorded a substantial growth in August 2023.

The Italian motorcycle market continues to see an increase in sales after August 2023. In July 2023, the market saw an impressive growth of 16.9%, as this period was at the peak of the riding season. As for August 2023, the Italian motorcycle market grew by a notable 13.5%, resulting in 18,309 two-wheeled vehicles sold. Just like in previous months, scooters led the two-wheeled sales in Italy, with a huge increase of 22.6% in sales. Understandably, scooters are among the most practical means of mobility in Italy, especially in urban areas where roads are narrow and parking is scarce. As for motorcycles, the segment also saw a notable growth – 6.9% – with over 7,000 units sold in August 2023. On the electric side of the equation, motorcycles had a growth rate of 15.4%, with 682 new electric two-wheeled vehicles sold. While scooters, motorcycles, and electric two-wheeled vehicles saw notable growth in sales, the same cannot be said, unfortunately, for mopeds, which have seen a downward trend in sales for the third consecutive month. Sales dropped by 6.77%, with only 1,226 units sold in August 2023.

When it comes to scooters, models with engines of 125 cc or less make up the largest share of the market. From January to August 2023, 54,143 new scooters of this displacement were registered, representing a growth of 18.3% compared to the same period in 2022. On the other hand, motorcycles saw consumers preferring those with medium to high displacements, as motorcycles with engines from 751cc to 1,000cc had the highest number of registrations, with 30,709 units registered from January to August 2023. This represents a growth rate of 46.7% compared to the same period in 2022.

The most popular motorcycle segments are standard and naked bikes, with a total of 43,405 motorcycles sold from January to August 2023. Enduro bikes come in second place, with 42,639 registrations, followed by touring bikes with 12,746 registrations, rounding out the top three. Overall, the best-selling motorcycle in Italy remains the Benelli TRK 502, with 3,715 units sold. Other noteworthy models include the BMW R 1250 GS in second place, as well as the Yamaha Tenere 700. Interestingly, the Moto Guzzi V7 was the best-selling naked bike, with 1,911 units sold from January to August 2023.
