This Misano test doesn’t seem to have gone quite as well for Yamaha, with Fabio Quartararo revealing that it didn’t go as he had previously anticipated since he had higher expectations… more than that, the former world champion couldn’t even understand if the engine he tested is an improvement compared to what he currently uses.
Here is Quartararo’s analysis, who, despite some apparent disappointment, seems to have found something that could be useful immediately: ‘I was expecting a better feeling from this test, but we have to be positive and analyze what happened to improve for the Valencia test. I didn’t test the chassis, only the engine, aerodynamics, and tires. One of the components that was positive was the collector we tested under the swingarm. I think we will use it in the upcoming races. As for the rest, I think we will have to discard some things and bring new ones for the Valencia test’.
As for the engine, #20 has some doubts if this is actually an improvement:
– I can’t say at this moment if it’s better than the current one, I have to test it for longer. The feeling is different, but I was expecting more power. It’s difficult to say something really positive about the new engine. Cal [Crutchlow] had already tested it and the comments were more or less similar, although there was a lot of grip here, while he tested it on a track where there was no grip.’
