Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP and Mitch Evans have mutually agreed that the rider will miss the next round of the FIM MXGP World Motocross Championship, as the Australian is suffering from a wrist injury.
The MXGP of Turkey last week was tough for Mitch; he rode in pain in both motos as irritation from an old wrist injury caused increasing discomfort to the point where he could no longer show his usual speed, but he persevered to score points in the championship with a twelfth and sixteenth place. Back in Belgium, the factory rider visited a specialist and underwent specific treatment to recover as quickly as possible, but he is still unable to train on the bike and riding would only delay the healing process. With the GP of Italy scheduled for next weekend, both the team and the rider prefer to give the injury time to fully heal; a decision will be made later regarding the final MXGP of the season in Great Britain.
Antti Pyrhonen: “We are working closely with Mitch to find the best way for him to recover 100%. It is definitely a difficult decision to withdraw Mitch from Italy, but we are convinced that it is the right decision; then we will see when is the best time to return to racing. We thank Mitch for his professional attitude and for making the correct decision in terms of his physical condition and ability to compete at the highest level.”
