Marco Melandri shared the Ducati garage with Casey Stoner, sort of like one of the greatest talents in motorcycling ever seen but… not everything was roses, with the Italian describing #27 as… a ‘strange character’.
On Claudio Pavanello’s Youtube channel, Melandri described Stoner like this: ‘He was a very complicated character, I think indecipherable even for himself. But with disproportionate talent. Sometimes he did things on the bike without realizing it, but he always knew how to do the right thing at the right time’.
The experience in the garage had good moments and other… strange ones: ‘It was good to be next to him in the garage, because I saw things that I didn’t think could be real. At the same time, he was a strange person, very insecure, very closed off. You went from being like his brother to being a stranger. But I understand, riders are strange.’
