Álvaro Bautista has been in MotoGP for nine consecutive years and knows better than most what it is like to be a rider in the premier class for so many years and then become a champion in Superbikes. According to the Spanish rider, nowadays the technological advances in MotoGP end up narrowing the gap between the most talented riders and those who are not so gifted.
Since 2019 in the World Superbikes championship and with a test on the Desmosedici as a “reward” for the triple achieved with Ducati in WSBK in 2022, the Spanish rider felt how the prototype of the main category of motorcycling is. Furthermore, he continues to closely follow the championship he once competed in and has a very particular opinion regarding the current state of it, considering the developments of the bikes and how they “affect” the results.
‘With electronic aids, holeshots, etc… it is now more difficult to distinguish between a very strong rider and a MotoGP champion. Now it is difficult to distinguish a factory rider from a satellite rider, when I was racing it was very different,’ stated the current leader and world champion of WSBK, as quoted by Motosan, before giving the example of some riders who race with Ducati:
– We are seeing this with Pecco [Bagnaia], [Marco] Bezzecchi, or [Luca] Marini. The difference is made when everything is right to extract the maximum potential from the bike
