At almost 39 years old, Álvaro Bautista believes he is in one of the best phases of his career as a rider, to the point of even thinking that he would now have the ability to “endure” a season in the premier class of motorcycle racing, although given the extensive calendar and many travels, this is not an idea that attracts him.
The current Superbikes world champion gave an interview to Moto.it where he was asked if he could do a season in MotoGP, to which he replied: ‘Physically and mentally, I would do a season in MotoGP, personally and in terms of time, I would have to think about it, but in the other two aspects [physical and mental] I am sure I would be willing to do a year in MotoGP’.
Nevertheless, Bautista emphasized that returning was not something that crossed his mind: ‘I never thought about it, but I would have to do it in terms of personal and time constraints, because we have less time to recover and there is a lot of traveling involved’.
Furthermore, the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati pilot said he believes he is more mature than ever, and at a competitive level like he has never been before:
– I think I am at the best level of my sporting career, in terms of experience, sensations, performance, clarity… I don’t know, I feel very good and this bike allows me to enjoy it. In 125 I was very good with the Aprilia, which was a very competitive bike, but in MotoGP I feel like I couldn’t show my true level, either because of timing, the bike… I didn’t have a bike that said ‘I am at the maximum to show my level’. I have the uncomfortable feeling that I couldn’t show all my potential.
