Before the start of the MX2 races in Maggiora this Sunday, Andrea Adamo knew he had strong chances of becoming world champion but that didn’t distract him. So, after confirmation, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider admitted to living a dream.
Racing at home, the Italian didn’t hide his happiness for the triumph achieved at the MXGP of Italy: ‘I can’t believe it. This is truly like a dream. Thank you to everyone. I came to Maggiora without thinking about winning the GP and especially about the first opportunity to win the title’.
Still, not everything went well or as planned, he ensured: ‘I am very happy with my motos. They were very consistent, even though I didn’t have the best starts. It wasn’t easy, but I wasn’t thinking too much about the overall picture and just wanted to enjoy the races’.
Adamo also recalled a tense moment with Liam Everts, who finished second in the world championship, wishing his opponent and teammate well: ‘I saw Liam as I was passing to start the final lap and that wasn’t very pleasant, but it’s part of the sport. I hope he is well’.
And he concluded: ‘It was an unbelievable day for me. Maybe I was lucky at some moments this season, but in every race I tried to do the best I could: sometimes it’s P2, sometimes P5, and sometimes P1. Nothing more. I can accept when someone is faster than me and I kept this strategy throughout the season; now I am world champion!’
