The new generation of the R 1300 GS now has a small piece of plastic that surrounds the front part of the fender. This is not something found on the previous GS, but it is present in the images and looks identical.
The second clue is the ‘X’ DRL that surrounds the new single projection LED headlight. In all other images of the R 1300 GS, a thin plastic film wrapped around the headlight, with only the LED projector and the top of the “X” protruding. This is most likely so that the bikes can comply with local homologation laws while still hiding as many details of the new model’s style as possible. Now, when we look at the design of the new bike’s headlight, we can clearly see that the dimensions of the DRL and the placement of the LED headlight match perfectly with the images we have already seen.
The engine protection bars seen in the new images are also identical to those seen on the test BMW located on the road. They also have a very different design from the engine protection bars found in the current GS generation, indicating that this is not just a photo of the old bike that someone enhanced with their Photoshop tricks.
The old “boss-eyed” look was loved and hated in equal measure and its roots date back to the 90s, which means it was ready for an upgrade.
The official launch of the bike is getting closer, with September 28th being the date when the covers are taken off. We’ll be following the action and bringing all the news (and whether we were right or not) as it unfolds.
However, time is ticking and it won’t be long before BMW reveals the bike in full, with September 28th marked as the date when the curtains are lifted. BMW isn’t letting the excitement die down though, as they have now released another teaser of the bike on social media, along with a reminder of the reveal date.
Until then, the specifications of the motorcycle are still unknown, although many commentators believe that this version of the GS will align the engine performance with the latest batch of adventure tourers with over 150 hp, such as the Multistrada V4 S, the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, and the Triumph Tiger 1200. We also expect the latest version of the legendary adventure motorcycle to incorporate some of the cutting-edge technology that we can see abundantly in the industry, with radar assistance being part of the BMW flagship in 2024.
