After Sunday’s long race, Maverick Vinales was satisfied with his performance and that of his team, despite finishing only in 8th place.
“Top Gun Maverick” stated in the debrief that he was able to unleash more potential in braking by “lifting” the rear wheel off the asphalt when braking hard on his Aprilia:
– Less, much less. (Contact of the rear wheel with the ground) It’s strange. But it is what it is. Normally with the Aprilia you can brake very late and never lift the rear, today we caused the rear to lift. So, I was able to brake 10 meters later, lift the rear and then stop the bike much more. So it’s fantastic, I love this feeling. And it’s something I’ve asked for many, many times. We were lucky that we weren’t starting in third, fourth or fifth here, where you can’t risk like that. But we made this gamble and I think we can take a lot from this weekend.
However, the Spanish pilot does not lose focus and knows that there is still a lot of work ahead, and much to understand about his RS-GP:
– I think it’s the tire that is harder and makes things more difficult for us. But we have something on the bike that, for example, in Montmeló gives us an advantage, but in others it is more negative than the rest and we need to understand what it is, because we still don’t know. Maybe with today’s data, we can start to understand more things.
