Marco Bezzecchi made one of the best races of his MotoGP career at the Indian GP, winning with over nine seconds advantage to Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati).
Despite the overwhelming performance, the man from Mooney VR46 Racing Team ensured that he didn’t have it easy: ‘It wasn’t easy, for sure. It was really tough because of the heat, because of everything. But I felt good on the bike and after Saturday I was very motivated to turn things around because I believe that even on Saturday I could have done a bit better. I don’t know how, but surely better than fifth‘.
According to Bezzecchi, he expected to be overtaken at the start, reacting accordingly before taking the lead: ‘I had a good start, I knew that Jorge and Pecco [Bagnaia] would probably overtake me because they have something more than me at the start. So I stayed calm and tried to stay close to them. Then, when I had the opportunity, I moved to the front. I was a bit aggressive, but I had to do it. And then I just tried to set my pace, I tried to attack while managing the tire as best as I could. I felt fantastic on the bike, so I am very, very happy‘.
Asked what made him like the Buddh International Circuit, #72 stated: ‘It’s a track that I honestly liked from the first time I rode on it. For me it was good everywhere because there were some strong braking points, but also some fast parts, chicanes. And physically I felt better with the hand, so the changes of direction were no longer a problem like in Misano. So, sector three was really fantastic to ride, but I also liked the strong braking points a lot and I tried to focus on that part, because normally Pecco and Jorge – especially Pecco – make more of a difference in that area. So, this time I started the weekend thinking about improving in that part of the riding style. It was fantastic‘.
