The calendar for next year’s MotoGP World Championship was announced this Wednesday, featuring 22 Grand Prix races. It is an absolute record that, according to Fabio Quartararo, cannot be surpassed.
In the view of the 2021 champion, the main issue with the calendar is the intensity of each GP: ‘From my point of view, I think this is the limit. It’s clearly the limit. The problem is not just the 22 races; it’s the 22 sprints. Mentally, physically, the weekend is completely different. Look at how many injuries there are this year. From Friday morning you have to be at the limit. Last year you could start FP1 much more calmly, more or less. You would push in FP2 and then in FP3 is when you really started pushing to the limit. With the schedule we have, you are always at the limit. And this is, for me, the problem‘.
Quartararo understands that the calendar now has its maximum possible extension: ‘Of course I think that more than 22 [GPs] is not possible because physically it is totally different. And I think this is super important. As for the salary, it’s not my business, I’m not going to talk about it’.
