Joan Mir will test the prototype of the Honda RC213V for 2024 during the MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix, but Marc Márquez will stick with the current version of the bike unlike his Repsol Honda teammate.
The six-time world champion in the premier class explained in a press conference that he did not like what he tested in Misano: ‘I know that Joan will ride with the 2024 chassis prototype. At the moment I will not because in Misano I did not feel… maybe there are some positive aspects, maybe some negatives. Maybe here it can be positive because there is a lot of stop-and-go and that bike was good for that. But I believe that the prototype bike, the way of riding for a season, is not the way to go‘.
Márquez prefers, therefore, to concentrate on the material he has at the moment: ‘For me, it doesn’t make sense to race with one chassis one day and another chassis the next. I am only focusing on what I have. I will try out some small things that Honda has asked me to. So, I move forward with what I feel and what I believe’.
