Miguel Oliveira was only classified in 18th place in the MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix, after running in the top five and with possibilities of reaching the podium. Water entering his helmet prevented him from having the necessary visibility to ride safely, entering the pits moments before the red flag was shown.
The CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team rider told SportTV that even before going to the pits, he had already experienced scares due to the lack of visibility – not hiding that the outcome was frustrating:
– It happened that I started to lose visibility completely. I couldn’t see anything in front of me at all. The conditions were very complicated indeed. I had already had three laps before I had some scares, not knowing where to put the wheels, starting to turn too early for the corners because I couldn’t see, not understanding where I could brake, accelerate, and therefore I was riding completely blind. Obviously now it’s easy to say that I retired maybe half a lap too early, but the conditions were unmanageable. And it was very frustrating, yes.
