After Suzuki’s departure at the end of 2022, Yamaha is now the only manufacturer with a four-cylinder inline engine in MotoGP. Fabio Quartararo is one of the riders from the house of Iwata.
Last year, Álex Rins won at Phillip Island with a four-cylinder inline engine in his Suzuki GSX-RR, but for the Frenchman from Monster Energy Yamaha, the type of engine is not the issue – it’s the lack of power. Ahead of another edition of the Australian GP, Quartararo explained in a press conference:
– I don’t really think that the four-cylinder inline engine was the problem; it’s the power that can be an issue. Last year I tried to save the tire too quickly, but when you come out of the last corner and then all the way down the straight, you lack that power and I made some mistakes. But this year I know what to do if I’m in the same situation.
