Before the sprint race was canceled, the MotoGP Australian Grand Prix warm-up took place in the rain and Maverick Viñales was the fastest. The Aprilia rider had good sensations with his bike – so much so that he had something to understand.
The Spanish rider explained that he had a level of traction in the rain that he did not have when it was dry weather in Phillip Island – something that had not happened for the first time in 2023:
– It was looking good, the other Aprilias not so much. But honestly I was feeling very good. It’s something we have to understand, because with wet pavement I found the traction that I don’t have with dry pavement. So we need to understand and we need to study, because it’s important. In Japan, even though I crashed and changed bikes, I was one of the fastest on track without the motivation to attack. We need to understand, honestly I’m curious to really dive into the rain data because we have something missing in dry weather. Honestly, I felt very good in the warm-up.
