Johann Zarco made his MotoGP debut last weekend at Phillip Island and admitted that he feels much lighter now, saying that he has another freedom to enjoy the bike. He recalled and compared his state of mind after securing the (first) title in Moto2.
‘We will see on the track, but this victory left me with good feelings for several days… Many people ask me if this will make me click to do even better, but I don’t know. I definitely have more confidence and feel less stress, as if something big had happened and now I can have fun and take the time to fine-tune the bike with the team’, said the Frenchman in the preview of this Thai GP, still with this clear achievement in mind.
He added, with the 2015 season clear in his memory, back in Moto2: ‘Maybe it’s similar to the first title, when I thought: it’s done, and now what? The feelings are similar, because I won the championship after many races, at 25 years old, having started racing as a child: I waited a long time, like in MotoGP, it took 120 races to win one’.
Zarco also received many kind words from his fellow riders: ‘I was very happy to see so many riders congratulating me, they were sincere and it was very nice. We respect each other and they knew I could be fast, but sometimes I was missing something. I think they won’t change their opinion of me’.
