Electric motorcycles have been gaining popularity in recent years, especially in urban areas. Interestingly, however, there has been a growing number of electric two-wheeled vehicles designed for off-road use. In fact, it makes perfect sense, as there has been increasing criticism of off-road motor sports due to noise and fire risks. Electric off-road models eliminate virtually all of these problems.
Furthermore, the high power and torque of electric motors have proven to be a useful tool off-road. Take, for example, the Strix, a high-powered electric off-road motorcycle designed primarily for military use. The powerful electric motorcycle has a torque of 1050 Newton-meters and 70 kilowatts. Best of all, it weighs only 118 kg. The motor power can be adjusted through various driving modes and a smartphone app that allows you to customize the settings to your liking.
In addition to its impressive power, the Strix is also quiet, making it a discreet way for military personnel to move around. According to Strix, the motorcycle has been tested by the US Navy, NATO forces, and the Estonian army. However, silence is not the only characteristic of the Strix. The motorcycle also operates at a much lower temperature than internal combustion motorcycles, making it effective at hiding from heat and infrared detection equipment.
As for the battery, the Strix has a 6.3 kilowatt-hour battery that allows for incredibly fast charging. Specifically, the company claims that the battery can be charged from 20 to 80% in just 10 minutes. The motor and battery are installed in a chrome steel frame that ensures a rigid yet lightweight construction.
Currently, Strix is accepting private pre-orders for its military electric motorcycle, with a deposit of €500. When available, it will have a suggested price of €19,800. That being said, it is still unknown whether the private version of the Strix will be legal for road circulation or if it will be just an off-road vehicle.
