The safety of motorcycles may be about to take a big step forward thanks to an innovation from Bosch. The German company will present many innovations at the upcoming EICMA exhibition in Milan, and a new generation of radar for motorcycles is undoubtedly the most important.
In a press release, Bosch states that its next-generation radar can prevent up to “one in seven motorcycle accidents” by integrating the radar with electronic emergency aids. Essentially, the radar would be used to detect the proximity of hazards and intervene on behalf of the human driver to try to avoid a collision. This is different from the Unified Braking System linked to Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ radar as the Yamaha system only applies the rear brake in case the driver applies high pressure on the front brake.
Bosch will present a new radar with a longer range at the upcoming EICMA show, with an increase in range of 50 meters compared to its previous version, now having a maximum distance of 210 meters. Additionally, it will have a horizontal aperture of 15 degrees, which “improves its accuracy in object detection,” says the German company.
This type of emergency radar system used in the context of autonomous braking is not a novelty, in general, even if it is in motorcycles. In the four-wheel world, it is an increasingly common feature in cars.
