Aleix Espargaró engaged in an intense battle with Marc Márquez yesterday at the Thai GP but, looking at the fight between them, he did not see anything extraordinary or highly aggressive, although he admits it was a war on the edge.
After the race, the Spanish rider talked about the on-track duel with his compatriot: ‘On the edge, it was a fight on the edge. I didn’t have fun today fighting, I tried to be aggressive, gain position and move forward because I thought I had the speed to fight for the podium and I lost a lot of ground during that fight. It wasn’t anything special, it’s part of the game and I hope people enjoyed this fight’.
In your opinion the fight was a bit more aggressive than you normally like, even though it was within what is acceptable: ‘There was too much contact for me, but it’s okay, if it’s for fun we can play. You know how I drive and I don’t like contact, you know my opinion, but if there has to be some contact we can have fun, play a little and people enjoyed it which is good but I lost some time’.
And he concluded: ‘But today I believe that me and my bike were not competitive enough to fight for the podium’.
