The 2023 World Superbike season came to an end yesterday in Jerez, but tomorrow the same circuit will host the first tests for 2024 – which will feature several debuts. There are two days of testing scheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday.
Right away, six-time world champion Jonathan Rea will take his first laps with Pata Yamaha, after nine seasons with Kawasaki. He will also have a new chief mechanic, Andrew Pitt.
With Rea leaving, Axel Bassani was Kawasaki’s choice and in these Jerez tests he will make his debut with the Japanese team – also marking his first time in a factory team and on a bike other than a Ducati.
One of the big news and most anticipated debuts is the absolute debut of Andrea Iannone in WSBK – possibly riding with Team GoEleven on a Ducati to prepare for his return to competition after a four-year suspension.
At Aruba.it Ducati, Supersport world champion Nicolò Bulega will make his debut for the team, although he already has prior knowledge of the bike. On the other side of the garage will be WSBK double world champion Álvaro Bautista.
Scott Redding will work for the first time with Bonovo Action BMW, as will Michael Ruben Rinaldi at Motocorsa Racing and Tarran Mackenzie at Petronas MIE Racing Honda Team.
Toprak Razgatlioglu will have to wait longer to make his debut with the new team – as Yamaha did not authorize him to test with BMW before the end of his current contract.
