Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martín are having an intense battle for the MotoGP title, separated by only 13 points with three rounds remaining. Despite the fierce fight for the ultimate prize, their good relationship off the track is not in question – as they both assured in a press conference.
Questioned about whether the title fight has any impact on his relationship with Martín, Bagnaia replied that what happens on the track and off it must be separated and there should always be respect: ‘For me, it is always very important to separate the relationship off and on the track. I think on the track everything must be respected, absolutely, but without thinking you are friends or close. So, if I need to overtake, I will overtake. But off the track, it is very important to still have respect, but with a normal relationship. I believe it is important and I think we are mature enough to understand that‘.
Martín responded to the same question in a similar way: ‘There is no reason why we wouldn’t talk to each other. We have a very good relationship and, as Pecco said, we have a lot of respect. Then, on the track, we will try to win and compete against each other, but for now everything is fine’.
