In 2021 and 2022, Pol Espargaró was in MotoGP with the colors of Repsol Honda and, recalling that time, the rider talked about his move from KTM to the Japanese manufacturer, saying that he deeply believed he would do well, also recalling what led him to make that change.
In statements to DAZN, the GASGAS rider recalled his move from KTM to Honda, decided in 2020, to take place in the following two years: ‘I chose the path of Honda when I knew it was one of the most complicated, knowing that things weren’t going well and with a big penalty for leaving. I didn’t leave because of money, but because of the ego that we, as riders, have and that leads us to make mistakes. I really wanted to succeed at Honda and believed this was the necessary step’.
This change also occurred because Espargaro was feeling “too comfortable”, stating that he deeply believed that he would do well: ‘The switch to Honda happened when I was feeling better at KTM, where I felt indestructible. These next two years will be my years,’ but what happened, happened, many accidents, injuries… And I arrived at GasGas and said, my redemption… And then came Portimão. These were not my best three years’.
