Involved in various championships and categories of motor sports – both cars and motorcycles – Red Bull has several promotional initiatives. One of the most recent brought together different competition vehicles in a drag race.
The KTM RC16 from MotoGP, ridden by Dani Pedrosa, participated… and was the winner. It faced the 2012 Formula 1 Red Bull RB8 (Liam Lawson), the WRC Ford Puma Rally1 (Adrien Fourmaux), the Peugeot from the World Rallycross Championship (Timmy Hansen), and the Ford E-Transit supervan (Romain Dumas).
The result ends up being, in a way, natural. Although less powerful, the MotoGP bike has a set of characteristics that give it some advantage in straight-line performance. To give you an idea, in the F1 race in Barcelona this year, the maximum speed was 346.4km/h, while in MotoGP only three riders did not exceed that mark in top speed in last Sunday’s race. The fastest ones exceeded 355km/h.
