It may be on Sunday at the Malaysian GP that Pedro Acosta clinches the Moto2 World Championship title. Currently, he has a 63-point advantage over Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), who is the only one who can surpass him.
After the Sepang round, there will be two rounds left, meaning there will be 50 points up for grabs. With the advantage in number of wins, Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) can even afford to concede 13 points to Arbolino in the race next Sunday.
Therefore, the Italian is immediately required to finish, at the very least, in the top three positions – which on its own will be insufficient, always depending on Acosta’s result.
Results that would secure Acosta the title at the Malaysian GP:
- Any result ahead of Arbolino;
- Arbolino in fourth place or worse;
- Abandonment or below 13th place, if Arbolino does not go to the podium;
- Top four, regardless of Arbolino’s result;
- Fifth to ninth place, if Arbolino does not win;
- Tenth to 13th place, if Arbolino does not finish in the top two.
