When he arrived in MotoGP, Jorge Lorenzo joined Yamaha, finding Valentino Rossi as a teammate – something that didn’t sit well with the Italian. The two had some animosity while sharing the garage, but those divisions are now overcome.
At the Mary’s Place program, the three-time world champion revealed Il Dottore’s resistance to his entry at Yamaha: ‘When I started at Yamaha, Valentino Rossi was at the peak of his career and they didn’t want a young rider next to him. He did everything possible to stop me, creating obstacles and challenges‘.
According to Lorenzo, the relationship with Rossi evolved positively when they stopped being teammates: ‘After, when he went to Ducati or I left, things were better between us. But as teammates we had an almost hostile relationship, we both wanted to beat each other. Then, when one of us retired, the relationship changed completely. Now we get along well and cordially. For me he is a great champion, a very intelligent person with a high charisma‘.
