The Malaysian MotoGP Grand Prix once again posed difficulties in managing the minimum tire pressure limit, with several riders receiving warnings for infringing it. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) is not a fan of the rule, even warning of the risk of having tires operating at very high pressures.
Faced with the fact that next season tire pressure violations will result in disqualification, the Frenchman criticized the measure: ‘I think it’s very stupid, because overtaking is already difficult for us. If they make this a disqualification, I think it’s… not even for safety, I don’t know why they make this kind of limitation. If they want to do it for safety, now it’s 1.87bar; put it at 1.80bar. Even going down to 1.75bar the tire won’t explode. So, I don’t know why they made this rule‘.
E Quartararo emphasized that too much pressure can also be a danger: ‘I think we need to talk deeply, because it is also dangerous to have high pressure. In the Sprint race I had a bad start, but you don’t ride your bike; it’s a completely different bike and in the end your bike rests on two tires, so if the tires are not working well, the bike changes completely‘.
