After nearly two seasons, Fabio di Giannantonio achieved his first victory in MotoGP this Sunday. In a solid race at the Qatar GP, he had no fear or hesitation in facing the championship leader, Francesco Bagnaia, achieving a well-deserved victory… when he still doesn’t have a contract with any team for 2024.
Change of positions between di Giannantonio and Márquez on the second lap, with the Spaniard moving up to the podium. However, the situation didn’t last long, as the Italian responded and, after five laps, was already in second place. Marini lost momentum and dropped to fifth, also behind Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM).
In the lead, Bagnaia was putting on a dominant performance, but his advantage was gradually erased by di Giannantonio until it was about two tenths of a second. Meanwhile, Binder was not far behind either. Di Giannantonio’s approach was more significant in the last dozen laps.
The Gresini man was determined to achieve his first victory… and indeed completed the pass four laps from the end. Bagnaia then made a huge mistake, but didn’t lose second place thanks to the lead he had over Marini. Marini had meanwhile returned to the podium positions. Binder was also overtaken by Maverick Viñales (Aprilia).
After taking the lead, di Giannantonio never lost it, thus achieving his first victory in MotoGP. Bagnaia held on to second place, with Marini closing the podium in third. Viñales and Binder completed the top five. Martín had a race to forget and could only manage tenth place, a strong setback in his title aspirations.
