The agreement is practically closed at this point, but the official confirmation has not yet been given: Luca Marini will be the Repsol Honda rider in the next (two) seasons. The reason why the agreement has not been officially announced, believes Michael Laverty, is because both parties are still working on some ‘clauses’.
Former rider, the British rider has two full years in MotoGP (2013 and 2014) and is well aware of the reality within the class and spoke about the agreement between Marini and Honda, quoted in TNT Sports, saying why he believes it has not been made public: ‘It takes some time. They will want the various clauses, the exit clauses. They will want two fixed years and then the extra year to align them with the rest of the riders’.
There is a lot to do in terms of contracts, he adds: ‘There are many points to mark and many t’s to cross. It is understood why it takes time, it is a big change. But he [Marini] was squirming a little when asked the question!’.
And he added: ‘He is such a nice guy, he wants to answer, but he can’t give us any quotes’.
