Fermín Aldeguer was the unquestionable protagonist of the end of the Moto2 World Championship season. The rider achieved his fourth consecutive victory this Sunday at the Valencia GP, closing the year “with a golden key” to finish in third place in the final championship standings.
At the start, Aldeguer (CAG SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was stronger than Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) to take the lead, managing to pull away from the competition.
The first lap was marked by a particularly spectacular incident involving Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing/Kalex), Sergio García (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex), and Izan Guevara (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex).
Behind the top two, Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing/Kalex) was in third place. Further back, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) was struggling, losing positions – nothing important for the championship standings, as he was crowned champion in Malaysia.
In the lead, Aldeguer did not give Canet any chances, and with 14 laps to go, he set the record lap time in the race. Ramírez was holding onto third place despite the pressure from Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex), who was eventually overtaken by Alonso López (CAG SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) with 13 laps to go. The #21 didn’t stop there and managed to reach the podium positions by overtaking Ramírez with 11 laps to go. Until the end, there were no further changes in the podium positions. With no opponents to match him, Aldeguer achieved his fourth consecutive victory, setting a new record lap time in the race, crossing the finish line 3.986s ahead of Canet. López completed the podium, with Ramírez in fourth. Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) also overtook Dixon and finished fifth. As for Acosta, he ended his Moto2 stint with a 12th place finish in Valencia. These results allowed Aldeguer to finish third in the championship, surpassing Dixon.
