With Luca Marini leaving for Repsol Honda, Fabio Di Giannantonio was chosen by the Mooney VR46 Racing Team for the 2024 MotoGP season – marking the first time they did not choose a rider from the VR46 Riders Academy. Team director Alessio Salucci is confident in the decision made, expecting good results from Di Giannantonio.
The director stated in a release that the Italian was a last-minute choice, but it is a cause for satisfaction: ‘I am really pleased to announce that Fabio will be joining our team. It was an unexpected arrival, last minute, but I am pleased that we chose him. He had a great end to the season, he did not falter when things did not go well and I am sure he will be able to feel at home here‘.
Emphasizing that the hiring of Di Giannantonio is a turning point for VR46, Salucci made the objectives very clear: ‘At a sporting level, he has shown to be among the fastest young Italians, he will continue to work with Ducati and the goal is to help him not only be competitive, but also consistent in his results. It is an ambitious project, marking a turning point in the history of our team, but I am sure that we will all give our best to go in the same direction‘.
